BEECH
FAGUS SYLVATICA
The beech we use is the most common deciduous tree species in Germany. The correct name in the botanical sense is actually copper beech due to the slightly reddish color of the wood, which is visibly intensified by the so-called steaming. One steams (with steam) to remove the wood’s tendency to warp and crack. The trees are often cut down for use when they are between 80 – 120 years old.
