Natural Upholstered Beds and Upholstered Beds in Boxspring Style
made in Germany
The idea behind natural upholstered beds is quite simple: they take what people like about classic boxspring beds—the look and the “cozy sink-in” feeling—and simply eliminate the drawbacks, such as static charge caused by metal springs. Instead of closed constructions and synthetic materials, natural and pollutant-controlled covers and fillings are used here. So these beds offer not only maximum comfort but also maximum naturalness.
Our Products
Natural beds that can do more!
For over 38 years, we at dormiente have been dedicated to developing healthy natural mattresses and beds made from solid wood. Our products are meant to do you good and accompany you for a long time, and of course, this also applies to our natural upholstered beds made from pure natural materials.
In addition to using clean raw materials, when developing upholstered beds, we also pay special attention to the functional design of natural upholstered beds, e.g., comfort heights, compatibility with various slatted frame or sleep systems, removable, washable fabrics—just to name a few important aspects.
Recently, so-called boxspring beds, often also called hotel beds, have been experiencing a surge in popularity.
The reason is certainly that these upholstered beds can be beautifully designed in color with different fabric types, have a pleasant texture, and a good, comfortable height for getting in. However, it should be noted that the English term “boxspring” literally means “box (usually particleboard) with metal springs.”
In most cases, these boxspring beds are also “boxes with springs”—so from an orthopedic and electrobiological perspective, they are of limited benefit and not particularly healthy, not to mention the other materials used, such as polyester wadding or glue-soaked particleboard.
Boxspring beds can be done differently!
You take good, clean raw materials, proper beech or spruce wood, and design the construction so that the springs are replaced with truly point-elastic material that adapts to the body, such as 100% natural latex.
This is, of course, more expensive, but it has an immediate effect and provides real benefits, e.g., no electromagnetic pollution in the natural boxspring bed from metal springs. We implemented this in our VEGA boxspring bed—the substructure consists of solid spruce wood, which is padded very comfortably with latexed coconut fiber and pure natural latex.
To make this natural boxspring bed extremely breathable and regulate the room climate, everything is then wrapped in 100% virgin wool batting. You don’t see it under the white cotton upholstery cover—but you feel it immediately—hidden values that we consider essential.
Our other natural upholstered beds, such as STELLA, offer even more: here there is no “box” at all, but a frame padded with wool in a 100% cotton cover, made of solid beech wood.
The outer fabrics are freely selectable and always removable and replaceable. The clever part is that you can insert our orthopedically adjustable Sleep System 7 into these beds, so they look like a normal boxspring bed but are orthopedically much better adapted to your needs.
Additionally, it is also possible to insert normal slatted frames, so you can choose at any time between boxspring style or normal bed style with an insertable slatted frame and mattress. The bed is therefore permanently adaptable to your potentially changing needs.
FAQ Natural Upholstered Beds
Natural Upholstered Beds by dormiente are more than just beds – they are a retreat, a favorite spot, and a design piece all in one. Whether you read in the evening, wake up slowly in the morning, or simply like to lean back softly – everything comes together perfectly here.
In this section, you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our upholstered beds: from assembly and materials to proper care.
What distinguishes a classic box spring bed from a dormiente upholstered bed in box spring style?
❌ Classic Box Spring Bed
A classic box spring bed consists of a spring box as the base, another spring mattress on top, and a topper as the finishing layer. While it may seem comfortable at first, in practice it’s difficult to adjust to individual needs. Moreover, many box spring beds contain a lot of materials that don’t belong in the bedroom – for example, plastic, metal springs, and chemical treatments.
✅ Natural Upholstered Bed by dormiente
A Natural Upholstered Bed by dormiente may look similar at first glance – it also features a padded headboard and a distinctive bed frame. However, its construction is entirely different. The base consists of sturdy solid wood combined with a supportive layer of natural latex. On top lies a mattress that can be customized to your sleeping position, weight, and personal preferences. A matching topper is an integral part of the system, providing that extra touch of comfort.
What advantages do dormiente upholstered beds offer?
✅ Hotel Feeling at Home
A dormiente upholstered bed brings the design hotel feeling directly into your bedroom – just without a check-out time 😉. The soft padding invites you to lean back, the clean lines create calm in the room, and the comfortable bed height makes getting up easy, without having to “sort out your knees” in the morning. You choose the headboard, fabric, and color to match your style. You define the look; we provide the comfort.
✅ Natural Instead of Plastic
What’s inside matters. Instead of laboratory foams, polyester, or faux leather, we use natural materials like natural latex, coconut fiber, organic cotton, and virgin wool. There are no adhesives that release harmful substances and no other materials that pollute the air. Every natural material is tested for harmful substances, skin-friendly, and processed in a way that is comfortable for both your body and the environment.
✅ Excellent Ventilation and Climate Regulation
Many box spring beds have a dense base that traps heat and moisture like a closed car in summer. With dormiente, the climate remains relaxed. The open construction allows air circulation, and the natural materials do the rest. They absorb moisture, release it again, and keep the temperature comfortably balanced.
✅ Ergonomic and Individually Adjustable
These beds also offer a lot ergonomically. dormiente upholstered beds can be configured to truly match your body. Whether you sleep on your back or side, prefer a softer feel, or need more support – every element is tailored to your sleeping habits. Even if two people with very different needs share a bed, this can be easily accommodated.
✅ No Electrical Conductivity
dormiente upholstered beds are designed to be virtually metal-free – no springs in the padding, no metal in the slatted frame, and no components that could disturb your sleep. Some models use individual connecting screws. If 100% metal-free construction is important to you, check the model description or consult us personally – we’ll be happy to help.
Are dormiente upholstered beds suitable for allergy sufferers?
Yes, dormiente upholstered beds are a good choice for allergy sufferers. Not because there’s a special allergy version, but because we only use materials from the start that work well for sensitive skin and delicate airways.
What is the lying height of dormiente upholstered beds in box spring style?
The exact lying height of the upholstered beds depends on the chosen model and mattress. Typically, it ranges between xx and xx centimeters, similar to classic box spring beds. This makes getting in and out comfortably easy, without sinking too deep or struggling to get up. Unlike classic bed systems, our upholstered beds do not use a slatted frame. The base consists of a stable, elastic natural latex layer on solid wood.
How long do dormiente upholstered beds last?
In general, you can expect a dormiente upholstered bed to last 10 years or more. The exact lifespan depends on usage and care. Our beds are built for longevity, meaning solid wood constructions, high-quality upholstery fabrics, and natural materials.
We focus on repairability and sustainability, so covers or parts can be replaced instead of buying a completely new bed. This conserves resources and ensures that you not only keep your bed for a long time but also enjoy keeping it.
How are dormiente upholstered beds delivered and assembled?
dormiente upholstered beds are delivered in separate parts, either via specialized retailers or shipping companies. Bed frames, mattresses, and accessories arrive well-packaged to ensure safety and cleanliness.
Assembly is straightforward but requires some care. You won’t have to wait long to experience the comfort. Many models can be assembled without tools or with just a few steps. Anyone who likes to DIY can handle it easily.
If not – no stress – many dormiente retailers include assembly as part of the service or offer it as an add-on.
Where can I buy or test a dormiente upholstered bed?
Our upholstered beds are only available through selected specialist retailers and sleep studios who know what matters for restorative sleep. There, you’ll receive detailed advice and can try out the bed firsthand. You’ll also find other bedroom furniture options, such as matching storage cabinets, from a sleep expert.
