Solid wood slatted frames, mattress base systems and motor frames

here are the matching base systems for your mattress

In addition to the right natural mattress, matching your mattress with the right base system and your pillow is an essential approach to creating a good, healthy orthopaedic overall effect for your bed.

The most important aspect is certainly the natural latex mattress, because it has the “first contact” with you and must ideally replicate your body shape. However, the pressure of your body weight should also be absorbed by your slatted frame or motor frame, which is especially important for the “prominent” body zones such as the pelvis or shoulders. The absorption of pressure and its even distribution across slatted frame and mattress relieves these areas of the body.

This can only be achieved by a particularly flexible, point-elastic or adjustable wooden slatted frame|spring slatted frame, which can be adjusted to your body shape and weight, for example, or does this on its own. We therefore offer several different systems, because the people who need them are also different. That there is a great deal of know-how in our slatted frames and base systems can also be seen from the fact that our SYSTEM 7® base system and the PHYSIOFORM slatted frame are patented.

With the matching natural pillow – which is largely responsible for the position of your cervical spine – the correct balance is achieved from an orthopaedic point of view for healthy and restful sleep.

FAQ Slatted Frames and Bed Bases

You are in the middle of researching slatted frames – and suddenly it seems more complicated than expected. Slats, firmness levels, zones … quite a lot to take in, right? That’s why we’ve done the info-gathering for you and answer the most important questions about slatted frames here. Let’s go!

Why do you need a slatted frame?

Ergonomic & orthopedic support: Your body is not a straight line; it has curves – at the shoulders, hips, and lower back. Adjustable slatted frames adapt to your body contours and provide targeted support for shoulders, hips, and lumbar spine to prevent tension and back pain. At the same time, the slatted frame can be individually adjusted to your body weight.

Optimal ventilation: Yes, we all sweat in our sleep (even if we don’t notice). A slatted frame provides fresh air from below, keeping everything dry and preventing your mattress from smelling musty. Without a slatted frame, moisture accumulates in the mattress – which can lead to mold or dust mites.

Longer mattress lifespan: A slatted frame distributes weight evenly, reduces pressure points, and prevents the mattress from sagging. This reduces wear and tear, keeps the mattress in shape longer, and preserves the materials.

Individual adjustment: Many slatted frames are adjustable, allowing you to raise the head or legs – perfect for reading, relaxing, or if you need a slightly elevated sleeping position due to acid reflux or back pain. Even better: there are also electric slatted frames that do this at the push of a button. At dormiente, we also offer a wide selection of lengths and widths for slatted frames.

Which slatted frames does dormiente offer?

As sleep experts, we of course don’t just have one solution, but have developed several slatted frames – suitable for every sleep type and bed.

➡️ Roll slats: The simple and stable base for your mattress. Perfect for guest beds or futon beds if you want a straightforward solution without much spring action.

➡️ Spring wood frame: The slatted frame Physioform PRO has flexible spring wood slats and a patented adjustment system for optimal ergonomic lying comfort.

➡️ Swiss pine disc frame: Instead of classic slats, this frame uses movable wooden discs made from Swiss pine that adapt individually to your body. This provides even finer support for your sleeping position.

➡️ Motorized frame: For those who like to adjust their lying position at the push of a button. Raise, lower – just relax.

➡️ Lifting frame: A practical solution with an integrated lift function, especially helpful for people who want an easier entry into bed or have difficulty getting out of bed. That’s why the lifting frame is a big support in care settings.

➡️ XXL slatted frame: Extremely stable, solid beech wood slatted frames tested up to 180 kg.

In addition to various slatted frames, we also offer different mattress types, which you can find here.

What are the advantages of electric slatted frames?

An electric slatted frame with a motor can be adjusted to different positions via remote control. This allows you to comfortably read, watch TV, or find the perfect sleeping posture. They are particularly practical for people with back problems or limited mobility, as they make getting up easier.

✅ Individual adjustability – The back and foot sections can be adjusted at the push of a button, perfect for reading, watching TV, or relaxing.

✅ Ergonomic support – An optimal lying position relieves the spine and promotes circulation. Additionally, getting out of bed is significantly easier.

✅ Pain relief or support for other issues – Ideal for people with back problems, acid reflux, or swollen legs, as various positions provide targeted relief.

Which slatted frame suits me?

You’ll find the answer through individual advice at a dormiente specialist retailer. They will check how you sleep, which mattress you have, and what your bed frame allows. This means you won’t just get any slatted frame, but exactly THE one that really suits you. You can select a dormiente specialist retailer and schedule a consultation here.

How do you care for slatted frames?

Out of sight, out of mind? Sure, the slatted frame is invisible, but it still needs a little care. 😉

Don’t forget ventilation: Occasionally lift the mattress so moisture can escape more easily. You can tilt the mattress for a while – by placing a rolled towel or small box underneath, the mattress stays inclined for a period of time.

✅ Remove dust: Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean dust doesn’t accumulate underneath. So occasionally clean the slatted frame with a cloth or vacuum.

✅ Check slats, discs, and elements: Regularly inspect the movable discs, slats, and spring elements to ensure everything is in good condition. If something gets stuck or stiff, gently move or loosen the elements by hand.

Can I use my old mattress with a new slatted frame?

Yes, in principle, you can use your old mattress with a new slatted frame – but only if it is still in good condition. If the mattress already has sagging or pressure points, a new slatted frame will hardly improve the lying experience. A worn-out mattress remains uncomfortable, no matter how good the base is. If the mattress is older than ten years or already significantly sagging, it is recommended to replace it along with the slatted frame. You can find out when it’s time for a mattress replacement in this blog article.

Are there special slatted frames for heavier individuals?

Yes, XXL slatted frames such as the dormiente XXL slatted frame are designed for people with higher body weight. These models feature reinforced slats made of solid wood that distribute weight evenly and prevent the mattress from sagging. Depending on the model, the frames are load-bearing up to 180 kg.

Can I place a slatted frame on the floor?

Our recommendation: no. Even though it’s theoretically possible, this comes with several disadvantages. Slatted frames are designed to gain a certain flexibility through clamping or inserting into a bed frame. Placing the slatted frame on the floor prevents it from fully developing this spring effect. This reduces sleeping comfort and the ergonomic support of the spine. It is therefore not an ergonomic or orthopedic alternative to place the slatted frame on the floor.
